Centralized Exchanges (CEX)

Centralized Exchange

A Centralized exchange (CEX) is an organization that coordinates cryptocurrency trading on a significant scale.

  • By "clearing" trades, centralized crypto exchanges participate directly in markets. They usually hold digital order books, which are lists of open buy and sell orders with volume and price information. They connect buyers and sellers, then publish current market prices based on the most recent sale price of an asset
  • You have probably heard of some of the most well-known exchanges in the traditional economy, such as the New York Stock Exchange or the NASDAQ.
  • In the crypto ecosystem, some of the most popular CEXs include Binance or Coinbase.
